Special Tournament Rules
§ 1 Preface
The rules of the tournament are custom tailored for Internet events. Therefore, especially in tiebreaks, the tournament rules will not follow what is normal in classical "over the board" play".
If nothing different is mentioned in the rules the playchess.com server rules (first) and the FIDE-rules (second) will apply.
§ 2 General
All further information, especially about the tournament mode, the software needed and the cheating control, are part of the rules. The players are obliged to know them.
§ 3 The players
The players are responsible for a stable Internet connection and for the smooth operation of the machine they are using during play They have no right to claim a repetition of the game or a revision of the result if they have any trouble with their connections or their machines.
The players are responsible for a fast connection to the server. They have to be aware that the Tournament Director is obliged to keep a straight timetable in the event and is obliged to forfeit games if the lag (speed of their Internet connection) of players is not good enough.
The players are obliged to be online and in the virtual tournament hall throughout the whole tournament. If any player misses a round because he/she isn't in the room he/she will lose the round and the point.
You are not allowed to use any software which is not necessary to keep the machine running and connected with the server during the games. Players have a responsiblity to close all other software when the tournament starts.
Players have to play the game entirely on their own. They may not consult any programs. The players have to be aware that all games will be checked for cheating (playing with the help of an engine).
§ 4 The Tournament Director
The tournament director has to keep the tournament running on a strict timetable, to keep an eye that the rules are being obeyed and take care that all games will be played fairly until the end.
The decision of the Tournament Director is final, and he will decide if a game can be restarted or if a player may be expelled from the tournament. He may restart a game if it failed to start for technical reasons and the restart can take place quickly. He may expel players from the event if their lag is too high. The Tournament Director has the obligation to expel a player when he feels that the player is using external software for finding the moves.
In the final there will be a committee of three tournament directors who will decide together.
§ 5 Obligations of players who make it to the final on January 30th
Any player who makes it to the top ten in the preliminaries is obliged to put his real name, immediately (at most four hours after the tournament has finished) in his personal information on the server (F2 key) and a valid e-mail address. Any player without his real name and a valid email address in his personal information will not be able to play in the final tournament on January 30th.
The real name is visible to all members of the Playchess server, the email address just for the tournament staff, so your privacy is protected.
Any player who has won a prize in the final tournament has to sent an email to Martin.Fischer@chessbase until January, 31st 2010, 20.00 CET. In the email he/she has to include ...
These details will be forwarded to FIDE and ChessBase GmbH to make it possible to deliver the prizes.
