Tournament Mode

A. Tournament in general

The tournament will be played with six preliminaries and one final. All tournaments will be Swiss tournaments with 17 rounds and throughout the whole event the rate of play will be three minutes with two seconds increment per move (3+2).

B. Who may play

The preliminary tournaments are open for everyone, and anybody who has an account on playchess.com is able to play. If you do not have an account on playchess.com take a look at the section "software needed" which tells you how to create an account. Any player may participate in as many preliminaries as/she likes.

C. Entry Fee

The participation in the tournament is free. You do not have to pay any fee for playing, and all the tournament costs you are your usually Internet connection.

D. Qualification for the final

The top ten players of each preliminary have the right to play in the final. In case of a tie the tie will be broken by progressive score. If the progressive score is still even all players who are involved in the progressive score will get a place in the final.

E. Qualification for Moscow, 18th February 2010

The top three players from the final, held on January 30th 2010, will win a trip to Moscow to participate in the Moscow stage for World Blitz Championship final. Here in case of a tie the Tournament Director will set up tiebreak games immediately after the tournament. The mode depends on the number of players who are involved in these tiebreak and the number of spots available.

Here are the dates of play. All times are given Central European Time (Greenwich Standard Time +1) which is the time-zone used on the server.

In all cases the registration will be opened half an hour earlier and the tournaments will start on time. In the case you are unable to make it a late entry might be possible, but you will have lost a round and possibly a vital point.
